Castleton Silver Band

Welcome to

Castleton Silver Band

Castleton Silver Band was founded in 1935 and is a rural band situated in the heart of the Peak District under the Musical Direction of John Whitfield.

We are not a competition band we enjoy a fun and relaxed approach but our aim is to play to the best of our abilities to produce a well balanced sound.

The band is fortunate to have an excellent Training Band.

If you can play an instrument or would like to learn please come along and join in, everyone is welcome, young and old.

What we do as a Band

Our year usually commences with the famous Castleton Garland followed by a summer of playing at village fetes, galas, well dressings and other local events.

We seem to attract quite a variety of engagements.  We have played on the top of Howden Moor whilst being filmed from a helicoper.  We once played at Longshaw Sheep Dog Trails but had to stop while the dogs were running because we interferred with the whistle.  Red Bull had us playing at a running event to encourage the runners so we concentrated on 6/8 time.

Our latest claim to fame was taking part in Escape to the Country.

Training Band

Band History

Having missed two Castleton Garland Parades John our Musical Director used his wizardry to produce this video.

We also featured on Escape to the Country which was televised on the 27th September you can see a clip from this below in 'more info'

The Training Band is led by John Whitfield and many helpers on Monday evening from 6.30.

Their lively and charismatic personalities ensure that practices are informal , productive and fun.

Castleton Band was officially inaugurated for the King's Jubilee in 1935.

It originally consisted of anyone who could 'blow'.
